Mold
Mold (Yr Wyddgrug) has an attractive high street with a great range of independent shops, and the town is well served with cafés, pubs and restaurants. However, Mold is probably best-known for its vibrant and lively street market held each Wednesday and Saturday. There is also a permanent indoor market and a twice monthly Farmer’s Market, specialising in artisan food and drink.
Every September the town plays host to one of the most successful food fairs in North Wales, with celebrity chefs, cookery demonstrations and live music. This event has grown year on year, helping to establish the area as a first-rate foodie destination.
An important centre of local government and legislature, being home to both the County Hall and Crown Court, Mold is also hugely important as a centre of art and literature. Welsh language author, Daniel Owen, known as the Welsh Dickens, was born in the town, and Richard Wilson, founding member of the Royal Academy in London, and widely regarded as the father of British landscape painting, lived at nearby Llanferres.
Theatr Clwyd, on the outskirts of the town, is the place to go for live theatre productions, music and comedy. It also has a cinema and regularly hosts art and craft exhibitions. Though there is so much to see and do in the town, Mold is also a great base from where to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Clwydian Hills and Vale of Clwyd.
